Lethal Sheethal’s Kiva Fellowship Fundraiser and Congrats to Raffle Winners

I got to talk to many friends and meet some new ones.I also introduced Kiva to some people who had never heard ofthe organization before.

Thank you all so much for your support of my work with Kiva.I have collected so many good thoughts from the Going Away Party andso many personal messages from those who could not make it that Iwill keep with me during my trip.

Some of you have said that my work isinspiring to you. That isvery kind. I think many of us do great thingsto support our local communities and help make the world better. Thishas been a dream of mine for a long time. I am looking forward to doinga small part to support Kiva’s mission and learn more about the realityof microfinance in the rural Cusco region.

As the days are counting downto my departure, I’m getting excited but also realizing how much I willmiss my husband, my family and my friends during my time away.Fulfilling a dream comes with sacrificebut this experience will bepriceless.

I have secured fiscal sponsorship through IHCenter/LUFFso donors can get a tax deduction for their contributions to support mywork with Kiva.

Ways to Support my Kiva Fellowship
Kiva is a volunteer work experience, and I am also on my own formy travel and living expenses. There are many ways to support Kiva'swork and my Fellowship -

  • Donations - A monetary donation is greatly appreciated andwould help offset the costs of the fellowship. Please see my budget below or on my blog. Last weekend I did a triathlon in support of my Kiva Fellowship. See results and pictures on my blog.

  • Online Marketing Consulting Projects - If you know of anyorganizations that need help with analytics, research or social media,I would be glad to work on consulting projects before I leave or whileI am away to offset the costs of my fellowship. A lot of work can bedone virtually with email, Skype phone, etc

My Kiva Fellowship budget
Support for my Kiva Fellowship
Since Kiva is a volunteer work experience, I am on my own for mostexpenses.

Here’s my projected budget for my Kiva Fellowship, usingGuatemala as a research model (since I am unsure where my placementswill be yet).

Costs Before Departure:
  • Flight (hoping to use frequent flyer miles!) $55

  • Single-Entry Visa $10

  • Personal Items $100
Daily Living Costs:
  • Accommodation (Utilities included) $2,880
  • Food $360
  • Communication (Internet and Phone) $474
  • Travel $1,800
  • Emergency Funds $1,000
TOTAL $6,994

I am donating 6 months of work to 2 of Kiva’s partner MFIs. Iwill be funding most of this amazing experience with my savings but anyamount you could donate would help with my travel, living expenses andcommunication access, which is crucial to my work!

Hi there,

Starting at the beginning of October, I will bevolunteering as a a Kiva Fellow inLatin America for 6 months. I will beworking with one of Kiva'spartner Microfinance Institutions to meetentrepreneurs and createprofiles on the Kiva website so that generouspeople like you can lendthem money to start or expand theirmicroenterprise. I haven't receivedmy placements yet, but it willhopefully be in 2 of the following 5countries -

Kiva Fellow Core Responsibilities:
